IN STUDENTS' OWN WORDS

In the YouthTruth Student Survey, students at Forest School District had the opportunity to provide anonymous comments on their experiences at Forest School District. Students provided feedback on the following topics: School Experience This Year, Strengths, Areas for Improvement, Bullying, Obstacles to Learning, Post-High School Plans, Dropping Out, and additional comments students chose to provide.

For the "School Experience This Year" topic, students were asked:

The COVID pandemic has changed learning for many students. Is there anything you think your school should know about how this change has been for you or that your school can do to help you during this period of change?

The rest of the "In Students' Own Words" section contains tables and charts representing responses to the following two questions:

What do you like the most about your school?

What do you dislike the most about your school?

Students at Forest School District selected an answer choice from several options that are core parts of student experience. The options for the question "What do you like the most about your school?" are listed below.

1: My school inspires me to do my best (Engagement)
2: I have supportive teachers who care about me and help me (Relationships)
3: Students and staff treat each other with respect and fairness (Culture)
4: My classes challenge me to think critically (Academic Challenge)
5: My school is getting me ready for college or my career (College and Career Readiness)
6: Something else not listed
7: Nothing -- I can't think of anything I like about my school

The options for the question "What is one area in which your school could improve?" are listed below.

1: My school does not do enough to inspire me to do my best  (Engagement)
2: I don't have enough supportive teachers who care about me and help me (Relationships)
3: Students and staff don't treat each other with enough respect and fairness (Culture)
4: My classes don’t do enough to challenge me to think critically (Academic Challenge)
5: My school does not do enough to get me ready for college or my career (College and Career Readiness)
6: Something else not listed
7: Nothing -- I can't think of anything I dislike about my school

To see student comments about students' reasons for their choices, please refer to the Student Comments file linked above.
