EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

Students at Cooke were surveyed in October 2019 about their perceptions of their school in terms of Engagement, Academic Rigor, Relationships, Belonging & Peer Collaboration, Culture, College & Career Readiness, and Academic Support Services. In addition, students provided feedback about Student Voice and Leadership, School Safety, Emotional and Mental Health, and Drugs and Alcohol.

In order to put student feedback into context, this report compares Cooke students' ratings to the ratings from students at 528 other high schools across the country.

Compared to other participating high schools, Cooke's highest rated themes were:

  • Belonging & Peer Collaboration
  • Culture

and the lowest rated themes were:

  • Academic Rigor
  • Engagement

Compared to other participating high schools, Cooke's highest rated question within the key themes was:

  • How often do you work with other students for your classes because your teachers ask or tell you to? (which is in the Belonging & Peer Collaboration theme)

and the lowest rated question within the key themes was:

  • How many of your teachers connect what you’re learning in class to life outside of the classroom? (which is in the Relationships theme)

Students also provided feedback about Student Voice and Leadership. For example, 28% of students responded positively to the question: I feel like I can make a difference at my school.

Students also provided feedback about School Safety. For example, 68% of students responded positively to the question: I feel safe from harm while at school in general.

Students also provided feedback about Emotional and Mental Health. For example, 38% of students responded positively to the question: When I'm feeling upset, stressed, or having problems, there is an adult in school who I can talk to about it.

This report represents feedback from 2063 students. Based on the enrollment data provided, you had a 84% response rate. Please refer to the Appendix section for more information about the demographics of the respondents.
